DRAN released the below statement before the World Humanitarian Summit, convened by the UN Secretary General, in Istanbul in May 2016. The purpose was to complement the urban recommendations put forth by the Global Urban Crisis Partnership, and emphasized the centrality of human rights to humanitarian responses to displacement, and area based approaches in protracted situations involving urban displacements.
Global alliance for urban crises
As a result of the World Humanitarian Summit, UN Habitat convened the Global Alliance for Urban Crises, a multi-stakeholder initiative made up of a broad membership that includes actors not traditionally considered humanitarian responders. The Alliance is the vehicle through which the Urban Recommendations recommendations will be put into action. It is guided by a series of principles as laid out in the Urban Crises Charter.
