Lindiwe is a second year student in MIT’s Master in City Planning program. She holds a BA from Harvard University in development economics with a focus on poverty alleviation. She has worked in the public, private, and public-private partnership sectors in Washington DC, Detroit, Johannesburg, Caracas, and Zurich on matters of project monitoring and evaluation, urban design, economic development, race and gender equity, and transportation. Her current research focuses primarily on informal urban transit in the global South, mapping resettlement of displaced persons, and what she calls ‘Black Marxist urban spatial theory’. Before joining the DRAN team, Lindiwe worked on the Digital Matatus project, “mapping Nairobi’s para-transit network”, with MIT’s Civic Data Design Lab.
